I guess I should say “Fandom & Industry” things that went down.
Things like:
Mailing strangers VHS tapes so they can transfer fansubbed videos to it & mail it back to you
Companies cobbling together 2 or 3 different shows to make ONE BIG show with a flimsy plot thread to put them together.
Really boring drama anime meant for older audiences being marketed to kids with bright colorful boxes:
Dubs being recorded in LITERAL CAVES on the side of Californian mountains because that’s all they could afford to rent
Robotech not having the rights to sell VF-1S plane toys (THE major macross selling point, toy wise) because Hasbro already bought them for Transformers (and used it for the base for Jetfire) so instead they sold toys of everything else, including the Fashion Doll series “Women of Robotech”
The master tapes of the English dub of “The Amazing 3″ now being in a landfill somewhere because the widow of the director couldn’t get anything for them.
A group of Americans being hired by Gainax in their early days to be their overseas merchandising helpers – only for it to burst into flames because no one at Gainax knew what they were doing (Which you can read about from the perspective of Lea Hernandez in her webcomic “Bani Garu”)
The 1st Dub for Miyazaki’s Nausicaa movie (then titled “Warriors of the Wind”) being SO “BAD” that it insulted Miyazaki enough that edits to any Ghibli film are
