Everytime I remember that dreamworks made The Prince of Egypt I feel so weird cause there must have been a dimensional hiccup in the timeline. How else could you go from not only the best religious film ever made, but also one of the best films ever made. And then make Boss Baby.

Here’s the thing about Dreamworks. They aren’t afraid to experiment. See, there’s Disney who does the tried and true Princess Stories very often and stay comfortably successful with their formula. Now there’s Dreamworks, they aren’t afraid to break the mold and get a little out there with their ideas. This experimentation means they don’t have the comfortable formula like Disney, but it means the result is either really good or….. Bee Movie.

Personally, I think it’s worth it. Cause when companies experiment we get the most wonderful, original, memorable stuff. Like when Disney had their Weird Era and we got icons like Finding Nemo and Emperor’s New Groove and Atlantis.

Tl;dr: Dreamworks is awesome in my book and the experimentation they do brings out gems that make the flops worth it.

Also they are a less financially stable company than Disney whose budget is solely based on how the movies do. So occasionally, something like Boss Baby might be tossed out to grab some cash to enable them to continue creating things like Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.

Basically, both companies have roughly the same average film quality, but Disney’s quality is a tad more consisent, while Dreamworks’ best is WAY BETTER than Disney’s best, but their worst is WAY WORSE than Disney’s worst.
