Can I offer a counterargument?
I don’t think you should cancel this meme just because the guy in the photo is a creep. If anything, you should keep using it just to piss Crowder off.
I’m hardly an expert and far too lazy/preoccupied to look up example images but anecdotally, the vast majority of memes that use this format that have crossed my corner of the internet have been LGBTQ+ positive! Things like “TRANS WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL (AND YOU CAN’T) CHANGE MY MIND” and “BISEXUAL WOMEN DATING MEN ARE STILL BISEXUAL” and junk like that.
And if Steven Crowder really is an anti-human creep like he clearly is, I imagine this would piss him off immensely if he knew about it.
I may not be right and that’s fine, we can cancel this meme if we must, but co-opting it for pro-human humor sounds way more gratifying in the sense that 1) It would annoy the shit out of the source and I’m petty, and 2) co-opting memes to flood the channels with “nefarious” propaganda is kind of a play right out of the anti-human playbook. And who doesn’t love the divine justice of using assholes’ own tactics against them?
Before seeing this post I genuinely thought everyone already knew the origin of this meme. Steven Crowder is a reprehensible slimeball, and the meme is mercilessly making fun of him. Like, some of the memes I’ve seen that follow this format can’t even be fully understood without this context – take this one, for example:
For those of you who don’t know this scene from Spongebob, the wallet clearly and obviously belongs to Patrick, and any attempt to logically convince him of this fact is met with denial. That’s pretty much exactly what arguing with conservative fucksticks like Crowder is like. Their arguments are total bullshit, and all they can do when presented with solid opposing arguments is deny, deny, deny. And while this meme is still kind of funny if you don’t know its original context with Crowder, most of the humor is just lost.
Don’t cancel the meme. Keep spreading and using it for positivity. It’s not like the meme helps or supports Crowder in any way, if anything it ridicules him.
