I’m calling my Avatar sequel idea Avatar: The Girl With No Nation (or GWNN for short).
It’s about the Avatar, a 15 year old girl, being forced to flee her country and becoming a refugee. Hence the no nation part.
One so far. Her Firebending teacher (and love interest). He’s sort of a combination of Book 2 Toph, Book 2 Zuko, and Book 1 Jet. A very cocky guy.
That’s what I’ve been going for with the state of the Earth Continent (no longer a kingdom) and the greater Avatar world in the series. Lots of different states with their own rules and alliances.
The Avatar’s home state is inspired by North Korea and her route through the Earth Continent is inspired by Asia’s Underground Railroad and the routes North Korean refugees take in real life.
Can this Avatar not have a love interest? Or if they do, it’s not rushed or sloppy?
Don’t worry, I know the romance in Avatar is generally not very good. But I don’t intend to repeat the mistakes of ATLA and LOK in that regard.
