tbh i could care less about shitty plot lines. i come for the characters and i stay for the characters. you could give me the shittiest plot in the whole world but if the characters are real and i connect with them then i’ll defend the whole shitty shebang until my dying breath watch me

isnt that like a story telling rule
“bad characters cant carry a good story but good characters can carry a bad story”

That’s literally been the bread and butter of Daytime TV for pretty much it’s history.

I could go on for days about the peak of the soap opera boom and some of the silly stuff that passed for stories (or would drag on for six months like a slow burn in the case of The Young and the Restless), but what they lacked in budgets or locations or even possible acting they made up for in compelling writing. The format worked because they were allowed to react to their absurd situations.

Unfortunately, that’s been long gone from what’s left of the genre, and it’s a damn shame. You’d think in today’s times of serializing everything, there’d be more such shows, not fewer, but….eh.
