A crash pad, or “punk house” is an abandoned house that is inhabited by squatters in an attempt to avoid rent and property tax. The idea was popularized by members of the punk subculture, and even the hippie culture of the 1960s.
They usually provide shelter for people who need a place to stay, and It is not uncommon at all for these households to uphold anarchist ideology and run like communes.
