Can you please explain what’s so awful about Lily’s video? No offense to you or people who agree with you, but all of things you guys say about the video AND her as a person sound fairly biased to me. Especially considering you haven’t watched the whole thing and are mostly getting opinions from other people. I don’t want to argue, honest, but I do wanna discuss it.

1. she calls rebecca sugar, a jewish nonbinary woman, a nazi sympathizer because she made the irrefutable crime of making her antagonists sad

2. she blames the hiatuses on her and the crew, despite them saying multiple times that the show’s schedule is beyond their control

3. says that rebecca stole fan theories for the pink diamond reveal, even tho the crew has said multiple times that this was planned from the beginning

4. says that they stopped givng sugilite lines because she’s a racist character even tho the actual reason is that nicki minaj doesn’t come cheap

5. blames the show for stuff it already explained at length (rose quartz is not a good person)

6. says that pearl is a slave even tho the show has extensively shown that everything she’s done has been her choice

7. accuse the show of racism even tho these claims are either reaches (amethyst in that once concept art), easily disproven (fusions) or already apologized and removed (concrete, something that was done before the show)

Can we as a culture start thinking about Jewish artists telling complex stories about fascists before saying stupid shit? Sugar is not apologizing for dictators, she’s telling a story where the bad guys are people, too. There’s almost no chance that she’s not using her lives experience to explore political realities that have been affecting her people for thousands of years.

She’s also telling a story about redemption and compassion in a narrative that’s got a hopeful view on humanity. Extending humanity to everyone is the beating heart of her story.

Blue Diamond mourns Pink. But her actions are also that most direct reason Lapis struggles to even imagine being happy. Rose Quartz lied to everyone, abused her power over Pearl – but was also instrumental in saving earth.

Steven is a product of selfish desire and unconditional love. He’s inherited an amazing family who loves him and an unfair burden where everything that matters is a stake.

It’s not fair he has to deal with it. It’s not fair Rose lied. It’s beyond unfair that Yellow and Blue are three demensional characters who he can’t kill without consequences. It’s not fair that terrible people who do so much harm aren’t easily disposed of.

And that’s the point.

Steven Universe is unflinchingly honest about how complex the world is. That’s why the narrative is so powerful. Demanding justice isn’t filling out representation checkboxes – Its about recognizing one another’s humanity and struggling the make something good in systems that are built on the pain of others.

And it’s still worth it because Lapis came back. Steven’s unconditional love and compassion helped her heal enough to want her home back, just like it will in the final climax of the story.

But that climax is only going to matter if his compassion has been tested, if his antagonists are realized while still being wrong. That he can still for care and recognize the humanity in those whose want to destroy all that he values are what makes him a hero.

I don’t even watch Steven Universe, but this emphasizes something I’ve started noticing in a few other fandoms (particularly Voltron). I’m beginning to see a trend where people treat a story with the mentality that if anything bad happens to a character ever, for any reason, and in any context, then it’s bad writing and proof of the creators’ bad intentions. And I want to smack my head against the wall every time I see something like that because that’s not how storytelling works.

i was playing pokemon blue on stream earlier at 350% speed and i got to thinking

what if the reason nobody in the pokemon world has any good teams is because its considered a dick move to have a proper team comp

like culturally everyone is like “haha pick the pokemon you want! if you’re happy with three geodudes, thats you and your life!” and then you’re supposed to just have a friendly battle with any other pokemon trainers and whatever pokemon they just happen to have

like the average trainer is probably just walking around with a growlithe because that’s their pet, or a hiker has three geodudes because the geodudes help him with hiking. and if this pet owner and geodude hiker meet, you’re supposed to have a friendly battle but nothing too serious

now imagine the 10 year old kid that has six pokeballs on their belt comes up. you’re like “haha, we’ll have a friendly battle!” and you throw out your geodude

and they throw out a fucking gyarados, and it one-shots your geodude

and then you throw out your pidgey you have because the pidgey helps you navigate mountains because you’re a hiker

and then electricity crackles around the gyarados and a thunderbolt flies off of this giant dragon and evaporates your pidgey

so you’re down to your last pokemon. you tell them you’re gonna send out your bulbasaur. the ten year old is like “oh okay in that case i’m gonna pull out my vulpix.” like not only is this kid walking around with an amped-up super dragon, but theyve also got multiple pokemon specifically for making type advantage counter-picks?

this kid’s a fucking asshole! really, kid? what are you trying to prove here? this is a friendly match between strangers for fun! why are you composing real-ass competitive teams? what a fucker!

warm-suggestions:

It’s easy to feel inadequate at a hobby when there’s so many talented people out there who seem so much better than you. But you’re doing it to have fun. Because it makes you feel alive inside. And you can always bring something new and different to the table, even if you aren’t the most talented. Just keep working hard, chasing the feeling of passion, and have fun with it.

casual intimacy kills me every time. grand gestures are cute and all but seeing two people who are just totally comfortable with having each other in their space, who dont think twice about leaning into each other and thoughtlessly holding each other while doing unrelated things….. thats love

Sheith Fandom – Stop It

romelle-against-antis:

This isn’t directed at everyone, just the ones that I was informed of that seem to be policing or shaming people who still enjoy the thought of Pre-Kerberos Sheith. You guys should be better than this but you’re approaching anti levels of fandom policing.

For 6 whole seasons (minus 1 brief scene of Shiro and Keith having a moment during the Black Paladins) we only had fanon pre kerberos Sheith to work with. Some people like those fanon interpretations of the ship before the flashbacks explaining what it was really like. Some people like their fanon version better, and most see their canon interactions as platonic. However, some tend to enjoy what canon pre kerberos as romantic because that’s just what they like. Their personal interest doesn’t hurt anyone, and possible fanart or fanfics of pre kerberos are just people creating what they like. Going to them and being so harsh and vaguing about it online is just petty. If you don’t like a specific AU, then blacklist it or don’t read it. If someone you follow is creating things that you don’t like, unfollow them. Take care of yourself and don’t shame others in creating things that they like that you don’t.

if a teenager is at your door and they are wearing a costume!! please give them candy!! they are still in it for the halloween spirit and it honestly no different from a little kid in a costume. they are just as excited and happy as all the other lil tykes and dont you dare tell them they are “too old for trick-or-treating” because that will literally break their hearts and that’s not cool.

Its getting close to Halloween again so I just thought I’d reblog this again

And if “don’t be rude to teenagers over a stupid jawbreaker” isn’t enough for you, consider

  • You can’t tell how old a kid is just by looking. I’ve known multiple 5th graders who were taller than I am, and I’m 25 years old. With their faces hidden by masks, you won’t be able to tell they’re elementary schoolers, but they still are.
  • Lots of older siblings are expected to take their younger siblings trick-or-treating, and they only get paid in candy.
  • You don’t know if that teenager is developmentally disabled.
  • You don’t know if that teenager spent most of their childhood in a hospital or sick and has never had the traditional trick-or-treat experience before.
  • You don’t know if this is that teenager’s first Halloween in America, and they just want to experience a piece of American culture.
  • You don’t know if that teenager ever gets candy any other day of the year.
  • You don’t know if that teenager has eaten anything at all today.

And those are just things I can think of off the top of my head.

and even if it is just a bored 16/17 year old out trying to see what free shit they can get. is it really gonna kill you to give them a fun sized milky way from the multipack you bought at poundland? That thing didn’t even cost you 5p, just give the kid the sugar, say “nice costume”, and let it go.

There are worse things a teenager could be doing on Halloween instead of trick-or-treating.

It’s been kind if an unspoken rule in my college town that if college students show up at your door in costume you give them candy because they’re also out to have fun and it’s way nicer for the students to trick or treat instead of going out and getting drunk. It’s also a way for the people who don’t want to party and don’t want to drink to have fun so like, we need to stop getting angry at people older than 6 wanting to dress up and get candy.

Heck, we even offer the parents a bit of candy too! It’s all good fun~!
