Like a vinyl disc, where a physical groove is marked into the vinyl, a laser marks the ink of a CD in a similar manner.
A laser (your disc drive) can then look at the pattern in the ink and understand it.

They’re just really tiny, hence the laser. The smaller grooves means that more info can fit on a disc of the same size.

it’s only comparable to the grooves on a vinyl record in the sense that a spiral is the best way to store a track of data on a rotating disc. the truth is far more impressive than any of you have let on
Audio is translated into an electrical signal by a device that produces alternating current at the same frequency and intensity (voltage) as the sound waves hitting it, a microphone.
The voltage of that analogue audio signal is measured 44,100 times per second on a scale from -32,768 to 32,767 and stored as binary.
That binary does not go onto the disc directly as burnt area = 0, as many sources will tell you. The change from a pit to a land or vice-versa is what signifies a 1. It is also modulated to allow the player to read it more easily and encoded in a way so that the disc can still be read even if there are many bits that cannot be read due to a reasonable degree of scratches or dirt.
That finalized set of binary instructions is fed into a laser that etches the pits into a glass disc coated with a polymer that falls off glass discs easily when hit directly by a laser. It is then put in a vacuum chamber, coated with nickel, and a negative copy of that is grown by the complicated process of electrodeposition.
That negative copy is used to mold a disc of clear plastic with all the pits and lands. After it is molded it is coated with aluminum and another layer of plastic on top of the aluminum.
You put it in the CD player and the sensor that measures how much light is reflected by the laser sends that data to a little computer that reverses those modulations and error-correction encoding and sends that data to a circuit that takes the now-raw binary data and turns it back into an analogue signal that is amplified and sent to a speaker.

China is planning on using surveillance in this area to soon punish jaywalkers, but China has already created a surveillance state in “Xinjiang” (occupied East Turkestan) to spy on Uyghurs and find “reasons” to detain them in camps where Chinese officials torture and brainwash them in an attempt to eradicate Uyghur culture and sinicize them.. and if those things don’t work, they kill them and discard their bodies into unmarked graves.
Chen Quanguo, the man who was also responsible for locking down Tibet (a region that also used to be Central Asia just like “Xinjiang”, and which borders on the Uyghur region) is taking levels of mass control to a new extreme.“Xinjiang” is being called the most heavily surveillanced police state in the world. There are surveillance cameras (some equipped with artificial intelligence) and facial recognition software, who even alert authorities if Uyghurs are walking “too fast”, are parked in the wrong spot or have strayed more then a couple meters from their homes. There are armored cars, tanks, and police officers patrolling everywhere. You can’t even step outside to go the grocery store without having to go through multiple security checks, police body checking you and even inspecting your phone. (x, x, x)
Guess what, China is also collecting biometric data(blood, fingerprints, iris scans, DNA,..) from Uyghurs under the fasade of a medical checkup. THEY ARE STEALING UYGHURS BIOMETRIC DATA. MANY UYGHURS DO NOT EVEN KNOW. (x, x, x, x)
Uyghurs have NO freedom whatsoever in “Xinjiang”. The Chinese government sent letters to citizens of the region asking various questions like, “Are you Uyghur?”, “Do you have a job”, “Are you religious?”, etc. These letters were then collected, checked, and based on the score you received you were categorized as a “safe” or “unsafe person” and received different levels of freedom. Most Uyghurs however just ended up being detained in camps or thrown in prison based on their answers and even such things as showing interest in travelling abroad. (x, x, x)
Statistically speaking, in villages with a population of 2.000 people, usually about 400 to 500 of Uyghurs get detained in these camps – Some of them, for life – where20 to 30 people are forced to share one 15 square meter room. (x)
But that’s not all! China has also forced Uyghurs to join a program that gives them a “Han Chinese relative” (another attempt to
sinicize
them), and those who refused to join the program were fired from their jobs, or if they worked as farmers, had their land taken away. Uyghurs are also being told to marry Han Chinese, and some areevenforced to.(x, x, x, x)
China has also sent members of its party to live in Uyghur houses so they can actively make sure that Uyghurs are not engaging in cultural things and are following the rules China has given them.(x, x)
That’s still not all though! China is also harvesting organs of Uyghur prisoners, Chinese agents are spying on and harassing Uyghurs overseas (Canada, America, Australia, etc.) and are threatening their family members stuck in “Xinjiang”, Uyghurs living overseas have been ordered by China (last year already) to return to their hometowns, but since many refused to because they know if they comply they will get tortured and maybe even killed, China has started working together with various countries and has begun abducting and deporting Uyghurs. (x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x) The list goes on. If I were to list all the things that I know China is doing we would be sitting there till tomorrow. And if I were to list all the things China is doing that we don’t even know of yet, we would probably be sitting here until next year.
You might be asking yourself why China is doing that. It’s because Uyghurs are Central Asians and a part of the Turkic ethnic group. [Uyghurs are also primarily Muslim [however since China’s treatment of Chinese Muslims and other East Asian Muslims (ex: Hui Muslims) varies greatly from their treatment of Uyghurs it is very clear that the reason behind this is not [primarily] Islamophobia but Racism.]]
Uyghurs don’t get a fair trial either. The courts work with the party and tell the lawyers appointed to Uyghurs to work with them as well. They always end up picking the hardest punishment imaginable, like in the recent case where a 16 year old Uyghur child was sentenced to 13 years in prison for visiting Turkey.(x, x)Courts often even re-trial cases of Uyghurs who have already been found “guilty” and have done their time and send them back to prison.
